After four years in Thailand, we realized that the more popular brand, ChaTraMue, tastes watered down. Of course, everyone has Thai tea preferences, and we respect ChaTraMue for its signature drinks and delicious Thai tea soft serve. However, we’ve leveled up to crave a stronger Thai tea flavor for our cha yen.
It’s a good thing a local Thai recommended Karun Thai Tea. It’s an elevated Thai Tea cafe that serves unique drinks, from their best-selling Biscoff Biscuit Thai Tea to Melted Chocolate Bar Thai Tea. Although their products lean towards the pricier end of the Thai tea spectrum, Karun Thai makes up for its cafe vibe, range of unique drinks, and fancier presentation, including a sprinkling of gold dust on their traditional Thai tea.
At THB 85 for a 12 oz serving and THB 95 for a 16 oz one, Karun Thai tea’s traditional cha yen has a stronger, more flavorful profile that is balanced by the sweetness of the condensed milk (I chose the less sweet one).
Which is better: ChaTraMue or Karun Thai Tea?
So, is Karun Thai tea the best Thai tea you can get in Bangkok? Or are you wondering if ChaTramue is worth it? It all boils down to how you like it. A THB 45 tumbler from ChaTramue will be a good starting point for beginners and tourists. But if you prefer a stronger Thai tea, consider Karun–and while you’re at it, try their other recommended drinks and tell us what you think!
